Cold forging is generally processed at room temperature, while hot forging is above the recrystallization temperature of the billet metal. Forging is sometimes in a heated state, but when the temperature does not exceed the recrystallization temperature, it is called temperature forging. However, this division is not completely uniform in production.

Free forging is suitable for the production of single piece, small batch and heavy forgings due to its simple shape and flexible operation.
